GHANA BAR ASSOCIATION (GBA) & AITEC ANNOUNCESS 3RD LEGAL INFORMATION & KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP

Ghanaian corporate lawyers will be gathered at Elimina Beach Hotel from 13th to 14th July 2006, for the 3rd Legal Information and Knowledge management workshop under the theme: Developing Legal Information and Knowledge Management Strategies for Change.
Knowledge management is a new field of management now assuming a very important strategy for successful organizations. Knowledge management strategies empower organizations to acquire both the financial and non financial assets necessary to better inform and align their work to key organizational objectives. The increasing relevance of knowledge management and the contributions of knowledge management to the legal field present unparallel opportunities, innovations and strategies for the legal counsel.
It is against this background that AITEC and Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has over the last two years successfully organized the Legal Information and Knowledge Management Workshop to equip Ghana corporate lawyers with the relevant tool to be on top of their professions.
This years workshop, which has attracted over 40 lawyers from all sectors of corporate Ghana is expected to cover areas such as: How Information and Communications technologies enable Knowledge Management; Developing legal Knowledge Management System and Legal Database management among a host of other topics. The overall aim of workshop is to contribute to the capacity building process of legal professionals in Ghana to effectively use knowledge management to increase efficiency.
Commenting on the workshop Peace Addo Frimpong, AITEC GHANA head of Marketing said ‘The key objective of this workshop is help legal practitioners to align knowledge management concepts to corporate legal practice and implement basic legal information and knowledge management system in the most cost effective manner.

African Media To Promote Geospatial Science

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) has established a forum aimed at enhancing the capacity of the media in the promotion, advocacy and awareness-creation of Geospatial Information Science (GIS) on the African continent. Geospatial Information Science refers to the technology used for the measurement, analysis and visualisation of features or spatial phenomenon occurrences. For instance, in the mining and oil sector, resources on the earth's surface require sophisticated technology to discover, extract and manage and since mining and   drilling of oil require accurate knowledge of the earth's surface and subsurface.   Geospatial technology is best suited for the exploration and extraction of mineral deposits. ‘Sakawa’ deals and money transfer

Internet fraudsters operating in the 'sakawa' underworld are said to have deeply penetrated some money transfer outlets with enticing offers to enable them to retrieve large sums of money sent to them by their victims abroad. A case in point is a lady attendant at one of the transfer outlets in Accra alleged to have been compromised by 'sakawa' boys with huge sums of money in 'kickbacks' in lieu of the presentation of correct documents for the collection of their remittances. The attendant (name withheld) allegedly collects 10 per cent of the amounts involved from 'sakawa' boys who present code numbers and their personal identity cards to collect money in the name of females and 20 per cent from those who do not present identity cards.
